first impressions
older.html: Black background, two columns, links and info on the left, archives on the right. Two different link colours, but it looks like they're defined by location rather than function. Some kind of blurred pic eventually loads on the left. I can't tell what it is, but it's pretty.
entries: Match archives layout. I'm starting with 030519_74.html

general aesthetics
Definitely acceptable. :) Fixed background, so the text scrolling shudders a bit, or maybe I should upgrade my browser. ;) Font looks like Trebuchet MS at 13px and is white on black. Very legible.

layout
A pixelscripts design, clearly credited. Perfectly functional, easy on the eye, colours are nice, etc etc, but as usual the links are all the same damn colour. Blarg.

user-friendliness
Very good: hover cursor is a hand, hover effect is underline plus a change in colour, and I can definitely figure out what part of the scrollbar is the bar. Only quibble is those link colours.

navigation
General navigation and links on the left, forward and back under the entry. No problems there (except for all links being the same colour).

continuity
Periods of daily updating interspersed with periods of updating every second or third day, but multiples are common. Good stuff.

comprehension
The first thing that grabs my attention is a change of tense in the middle of a sentence. The second thing is the punctuation, which is hokey. I can still understand what she's saying, but the flow is interrupted because my brain naturally picks up on these things. Spelling is good other than some common mistakes (-ant instead of -ent, forgetting the "i after e except after c rule", etc). Tolerable.

content
I feels she writes purely for herself. She's not audience-unfriendly but you need to care (or have a vested interest in reading) to get into it. It's rare to find a diarist who really writes for themselves, so bonus points for that. On the whole, readable if you persevere - coherent, but sometimes obscure for lack of backstory (though that will be the fault of the reader for not reading enough of the stuff).

On our third date, I'd made myself drunken silly and revealed deep and lasting issues, yet he still wanted me, still wanted to try. Where did I find this amazing creature of a man? Oh yes, that's right, in a sex channel on irc. Who'd have thought hmmm?
The Third date

Its so cute, Simon has this little fantasy of one day when he has a little girl, tucking her into bed, picking up a guitar or ukulele, and playing this song for her as she goes to sleep. Its sweet, he feels embarrassed now for revealing it to me though. Oh, hed have her sing along too, shed do the baaabaaa bit at the end.
An ordinary day

my comments

Hello fellow Aussie. :) Not much to critique, since the link thing is a designer problem. Keep doing what you're doing, coz you're doing fine. ;)

Archive structure is good - archiving is by the month.
